My Story

My birth name is Ece Erdat. Maia is a given name in my homeland which has a special place in my heart and I love it. I was born in 1977 in Istanbul. When I was a child, we moved quite a few times due to my father’s job. That’s why I guess it was not a difficult decision for me to move abroad when I was 35 years old with two very very young children. 

I studied English Language and Literature for the love of reading and then trained to be an English teacher, dyslexia specialist and speech therapist in Turkey, America and in United Kingdom. In 2022, I added Remedial Teaching  into my toolbox from a Dutch HBO program and I am currently working as a part-timer Remedial Teacher in different Dutch primary schools.

I speak 3 languages and do my sessions also in 3 languages. Until the age of 41, it was the age of reason for me. It was always about the mind over everything, thinking skills and science. Then the age of heart began with a beautiful burn-out and breath came into my path. After experiencing the miracle of breath, I decided to be a breath coach to share this wisdom with everybody who would be in search of a way out, either from a physical illness or an emotional difficulty.

Then the rest followed. Exploring the world of energy and energy healing, frequencies with creating soundscapes. The power of carnatic singing and chanting and Lakota drumming… I followed a one-year program in Dikili, Izmir during the so-called pandemic. Every month, for one weekend, I got tested three times to be able to travel and it has worthed. I still continue my personal and professional development in various courses and keep going back Sathmahal Gülistan, Dikili, Izmir.

When I traveled to Sri Lanka for three weeks, another world opened up in front of me and the age of body has gotten solid. How many times a person can have a life changing experience. It’s not because I’m very lucky. It’s because I am loved and protected and guided. Coming here was not easy. Mind has a lot of barriers to get through. 

Going back to Huizen, where an important chapter of my life was begun in 2012, and opening up my own practice there, and naming it “Ruim” means a lot for me. It represents at least the transformation I have gone through from “Breathe with Ece” (2018) to have this sacred space which will allow me to expand even more and bring my dream-projects into reality. Signing the renter’s contract on 11/11/ 2023 was not something we arranged. We don’t believe in coincidences. There is only tawafuk.
